Magazine advert.

This is my first magazine advert i feel it is okay but i think i will make improvements as it goes on as i want a DIY feel seen with artists like the babyshambles.

Second Inside cover.

This is my second inside cover idea I had, i like this one alot more as it has a natural feel and it is alot more challenging.

Inside Cover one.

This was my first idea for my inside cover i soo dropped it as it had more of an electric feel; and my song was more of a natural feel.

Ideas for dvd Cover.

This was my original front cover for my DVD from this i have decided i do not want to do a full dvd size, instead i am doing it in cd size, but a card box.
I decided to do it like this because i have noticed alot more artist's doing their albums like this, like Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros, Fleet Foxes and TV onthe Radio.

Testing.

I have been testing out different ideas for the music video, the most recent is Ano walking into the real world.

This is just a test and will not be added in the actual video.

Editing.

The editing process has been going steadily, we have cut down footage of the band into small parts, and we have realised we could do with a little more band footage. We still need to decide a time in school to film the rest of the footage.

Animating.

In the past couple of days i have been busy with a lot of animating and have finally got the section where Ano is walking through the woods. We came across a few problems as the forest is in colour; the problem was that because the forest was in colour and we are using see through plastic this meant we had to decide on a colour for Ano; we decided yellow because it looks dark and dirty.

Filming

So far in my music video I have got 78 frames this is the equivalent to about 7 or 8 seconds of footage but with out new method we should be able to get all filming done soon.
Our music video has been going smoothly, and so far I have got about 20 frames on the time line. This shows Ano (anorexic character) standing on a beach I pompously made him see through to show that he was hollow and the grey of the background was created with light strokes of a normal pencil this grey colour makes the character seem lonely.

Speeding up the animation process.

At the moment he animation process is very slow as we need to draw a frame rub it out and change it a small part of it, by doing this we rub out the character and re-draw it in while drawing in the missing background.

We had an idea of how to make this quicker; by drawing all the backgrounds on a plain piece of paper then drawing the characters on a clear plastic sheet using board markers that can be rubbed out quicker, this will speed p the animation and we will be able to get our film done quicker leaving us more time to edit.

Changes to the storyboard.

So far during our filming we have changed the storyboard, from which we have made the shots of the band less rehearsed and made it more documentary style. The animation part has not changed much during the early parts. The characters have become different as we are now using a different faster artist with equal if not not better drawing ability.

Begining Idea for my music video.

My idea for the music video would be that it is part animated beginning with a close up of an anorexic sort of skeleton guy standing on a beach, it then cuts to a longer shot of him next to a bear and the bear roaring, the guy then crawls into a sand dune and a jungle grows (to go with the I can crush some plants to paint my walls part), he then comes out of the hole/ sand dune bigger than the bear and with a spear he then kills the bear (to fit in with the now I can shoot a gun to kill my lunch). And starts to walk off he walks for a while and the scene around him turns bluer to show his loneliness (cross cutting to clips of the band) he then finds a log and sits on it while scratching into it with his nails (maybe a close up of his hand, and this also fits with the scratching battle plans lyrics in the song) he sits for a while and the scenery changes around him but turns back to the jungle, a baby bear walks along and sits next to him, camera goes to a close up of his face and he turns and looks at the baby bear and smiles (because he isn’t lonely).

Analysis of Lyrics.

From these lyrics i found that most of them relate to childhood and not growing up. This is a common theme in the MGMT self named album with songs like "Kids". The lyrics are quite child like as they have lines like i was too lazy to bathe, and also made up words like Maders.

Shooting schedule.

The shooting schedule did not go to plan but it did go better we managed to get all the live action filming done all in one day.

Filming, 30th september.

ON the 30Th I filmed 4 more frames, these frames depicted Ano looking round to his left, and it then cuts to a long shot of him on a beach with a what was originally a Bear; the bear then moves his arms up and down. The bear now looks more like a sort of demon this was not planned but it is actually an improvement on my original idea.

Although my results are the opposite to my music video I believe that my idea will be successful as it is different and people may like the change.

First day filming.

On the first day we filmed all clips of the band. We filmed it using hand as it gives a documentary style feel, i chose to do this as I have seen it used in many other music videos for example in the music video for the song Hell song by Sum 41. I also chose to do this as it gives the "real" band feel; by this i mean it makes the band seem real and not like a group of year 13 student.

We filmed the live action part in the schools recording studio this also helps to show that this is a real band in a real recording studio; we had shots of the band playing around with the mixing desk and tuning their instruments as this is apparent in other popular music videos.

Filming 25th September.

On the 25Th I filmed the first 4 frames of my music video. There was some issues with the camera as we could not get the camera looking straight onto the picture; to prevent this i changed the camera from a video camera to a still camera, although this too came with its draw backs as it is very hard to get the camera in the exact same spot each time. I did the best i could with what was provided and it turned out good, it was also better than i expected as it gave the jagged feel that i wanted to portray in my music video.

Song choice.

The song that was chosen was Weekend wars by MGMT, this is a new Psychedelic space rock band. Their Album MGMT was voted best album of 2008.
This song was chosen as it has a jagged feel that went with an idea that i had for a while.

I also analysed three band images all based on the albums previously. All the bands have a sort of natural feel apart from Of Montreal (top right). All the bands are dressed in basic natural looking clothes.

Analysis of Cd Covers.

I analysed three AlbumCovers all from the same genre and noticed that all three had one similarity and that is that they are all quite natural, you can see in the Of Montreal album it is animated in a forest this makes it natural for obvious reasons, also the MGMT album is set on a beach and the moon is in the middle this gives the natural feel and finally the Empire of the sun album is natural as it has an image of the planet Saturn.

analysis of three music videos from my chosen genre.

I analyzed three songs from my chosen psychedelic genre to see what elements a typical music video from the genre contained.

Most of the videos included images of the band but all of them included random images and ideas that didn't really relate to the video and if they did it is not obvious to the audience.

Early ideas/ artwork for my music video.

This is an early idea for two characters in my music video for the song Weekend wars. I chose to have the first character extremely anorexic, to give a gritty dystopia psychedelic feel; this characters name is Ano. The bear is the complete opposite to him as he is strong big and warm.

Music Video Questionnaire.

When we first were asked to make a music video we had to do some consumer research. To do this I first made a questionnaire asking question like what's your favorite genre of music? and what do you like in a music video? from this i got a rough idea of what people wanted to see along with ideas that i originally had.
